Privacy Policy

Protecting your data is a priority for Modern Matchmaker (www.modern-matchmaker.com). This policy complies with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR - EU), the Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados (LGPD - Brazil), and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA - USA).
We recommend reading this policy carefully to understand how your information is collected, used, and protected.

1. Data We Collect

While using the platform, we collect answers to a detailed questionnaire that may include data on health, habits, preferences, personality, goals, as well as photos and ID documents for verification purposes (used exclusively for checking). We also record technical and access information such as email, IP address, country, and social login data. Approximate location (e.g., city or country) is requested during registration and can be updated by the user at any time. We do not collect precise or real-time GPS location. Usage data such as clicks, interaction history, and access times may also be collected to improve service performance and detect abuse.

Providing sensitive data is optional, and profile visibility may be limited based on user settings. The processing of optional sensitive data is based on the user’s explicit consent and is used solely to enhance match relevance.

2. How We Use Your Data

The information collected is used to provide a personalized and secure experience. This includes generating profile suggestions based on scientific and statistical models, authenticating user identity, preventing fraud, moderating reported content, ensuring system security, and continuously improving the service based on user interactions.

Data may also be used, in aggregated or anonymized form, to train and refine internal algorithms that improve compatibility assessments and detection of suspicious behavior. This processing has no legal or significant effect on the user and can be reviewed manually upon request.

3. Legal Grounds for Processing

We process personal data based on the following legal grounds, as required by the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR - EU), the Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados (LGPD - Brazil), and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA):

  • Consent: When users provide optional sensitive data or agree to cookies and tracking.
  • Contractual necessity: For providing matchmaking services and managing user accounts.
  • Legitimate interest: For ensuring platform security, preventing fraud, and improving services.
  • Legal obligation: When processing is necessary to comply with applicable law.

4. Sharing and Third Parties

We do not sell your personal data. Personally identifiable information is only shared with trusted third-party providers when strictly necessary to deliver core platform features, comply with the law, or with the user’s explicit consent.

To deliver core features of the platform, we work with a limited number of trusted third-party service providers who operate under strict confidentiality agreements and only access the data necessary for their specific function:

  • Paddle – processes payments and manages billing data.
  • Veriff – verifies user identity via document and facial analysis (data retained for up to 90 days in accordance with Veriff's policies).
  • Here – handles approximate location data based on user input.
  • Azure and AWS – host and validate user data and photos with automated checks.

If you are a California resident, you may opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal data at any time via our Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information page.

Under CCPA/CPRA, certain technical data exchanges (e.g., for analytics or ads) may be considered “sharing” even if no direct sale occurs. See our Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information page for details.

5. Cookies, Tracking, and Advertising

We use first-party and third-party cookies for usage analysis, performance improvement, personalized experience, and advertising display. No personally identifiable information is collected without your consent. Users can manage their cookie preferences through their browser settings and may revoke consent at any time.

Important: Due to Apple's AppTrackingTransparency (ATT) framework, which requires explicit user permission for cross-app and cross-site behavioral tracking, such tracking is not performed on Apple devices through our app. We do not install or use tracking tools that require ATT consent, so behavioral tracking and related analytics are limited or disabled on Apple devices.

6. Data Storage and Security

All data is securely stored on Microsoft Azure cloud servers, with the primary storage region located in the United States. Data may also be replicated to other regions to ensure platform stability and high availability.

Information is encrypted during transmission using secure protocols such as HTTPS. Data at rest is protected using strict access controls, monitoring, and best practices provided by Azure's enterprise-grade infrastructure.

Highly sensitive data such as real-time location, full residential address, or full payment details is never stored beyond the time strictly necessary for processing. Minimal payment data may be retained by our payment processor (Paddle) to comply with legal obligations. We adopt industry-standard security measures to prevent unauthorized access, data leaks, and misuse. In case of security incidents, we follow best practices for investigation and, when legally required, notify affected users.

Users are also responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of their credentials and reporting any suspicious activity.

Note: On Apple devices, due to ATT restrictions, behavioral tracking and cross-app data collection are limited. We fully comply with these restrictions and do not circumvent them, so data from Apple users may be less comprehensive or absent in certain analytics.

7. Data Retention and Deletion

Users can delete their accounts and request the removal of their data at any time directly through the platform. Once deleted, personal data is permanently removed from the main database.

However, certain information may be retained in an isolated system for up to 6 months solely for legal purposes, such as fraud prevention, compliance with regulatory obligations, handling reports, or responding to requests from authorities. After this period, the data will be permanently deleted or irreversibly anonymized.

This retention is based on legal obligations, legitimate interest, or compliance with user requests, in line with GDPR (Art. 6) and LGPD (Art. 7).

8. Your Privacy Rights

Platform access is protected by authentication, and sessions automatically expire after 24 hours for security. Users have the right to access, correct, update, delete, restrict processing, object to processing, request data portability, withdraw consent, and not be subject to decisions based solely on automated processing. These rights may vary based on jurisdiction (e.g., GDPR in the EU, LGPD in Brazil, and CCPA/CPRA in California). Users can also request information about data sharing practices and lodge complaints with a supervisory authority.

To exercise your privacy rights, clarify doubts, or get more information about how your data is handled, use the support channels available on the platform. If necessary, you may also contact our support team via support@modern-matchmaker.com.

9. Age Restrictions and Verification

Registration and use of the platform are strictly restricted to users aged 18 or older. Even if local laws allow a lower age for relationships or marriage, this platform does not permit participation by individuals under 18 under any circumstances. Identity verification is mandatory before any significant interaction between users. Submitting false documents or misleading information to bypass age restrictions may result in permanent suspension of the account.

10. Content Moderation and Legal Requests

Reported profiles may be reviewed by automated systems or specialized staff. In cases of terms violation or suspected illegal activity, related content and data may be temporarily preserved and, if necessary, shared with competent authorities for investigation, always in accordance with applicable law. All moderation actions are auditable and documented internally for transparency and accountability.

11. Policy Updates and Compliance

This policy may be updated periodically to reflect legal changes or improvements to our services. Users will be notified in advance in the case of material changes, and may be asked to renew their consent where legally required. We comply with applicable data protection regulations, including LGPD, GDPR, and other relevant laws in the regions where we operate.
